G8 Civil society in Roma: statement of civil society representatives.

G8 Civil society 2009 in Rome: declaration of the representatives of the civil society. More than 200 representatives from the NGOs, of trade unions, social movements gathered on May 4, 2009 in Rome at the time of the ’’Civil G8’’, a process of consultation of the civil society organised by Global Call to Action Against Poverty, Italy and the platform of Italian NGOs upstream of the G8 of Aquila of the July 8 next. This meeting allowed an exchange with the sherpas (diplomatic advisors of the Heads of State) of the countries of G8 so that the latter begin to hold their promises of fight against extreme poverty. This meeting gave place upstream to the adoption of a document of joint position to the all of the participants. This declaration approaches the worldwide economy, the financing of the development, and the right to work. In a context of international financial crisis and decisive year to obtain an agreement on the climate change, the NGOs were primarily concerned with food security, the financial crisis and the future Summit of Copenhagen. The document specifies that the G8 should give an answer to the employment crisis by taking measures to protect it and to create some again. In the field of education, the civil organisations of the company recommend the implementation of actions to reach the equality of the kinds at the elementary school, and the support with all measurements of Education for all(universal education), as well as a contribution of 16 million dollars. Concerning food sovereignty and agriculture, G8 should answer the evolution of the crisis by means of decisive and effective policies which include the full participation of the farmers and the organisations of the civil society. Concerning the world governance, the G8 should engage actively in promotion of process of economic and social justice and sustainable development within the framework of the United Nations. Then, the NGOs announce the necessary reforms of the international financial institutions by including a balance in the distribution of the capacity, with, inter alia, the participation of the countries of the South in the mechanisms of decision making, or the transparent selection of the leaders by their competition.

Lastly, the declaration included series of questions addressed to Sherpas of the G8.
