Voluntary Action Network India (VANI) is organising a two-day National Convention on Tuesday, 9th & Wednesday, 10th February 2010 in New Delhi, India. The theme of this convention is ‘ Partnership in Development ’ which will look at the relationship of the voluntary sector in India with the Government, Political Leadership and Elected Representative, Private Sector and Media. This convention will also address the challenges which are constantly faced by the Voluntary Sector in India and how the partnership with the above can support it overcome these. It is noteworthy to mention that the in India, voluntary sector has contributed significantly to finding innovative solutions to poverty, deprivation, discrimination and exclusion through means such as awareness raising, social mobilization, service delivery, training, research and advocacy.
This convention will also be an opportunity to formally launch the National Policy on the Voluntary Sector which also affirms the growing need for collaboration between government, the voluntary sector as well as the private sector, at the local, provincial, national and global levels. This policy is a commitment to encourage, enable, and empower an independent, creative, and effective voluntary sector in order to meet present and future challenges for social, cultural, and economic advancement of the people of India.
This National Convention of VANI as always will provide a platform where networks/ organizations/ activists across India as well as government, politicians, media, academicians, donors and other stakeholders share their views and concerns regarding the sector and also become a part of discussions and deliberations on the issues related to it.
Objectives of the convention are to:
• Facilitate sharing of issues and concerns among the civil society organizations within the country. • Encourage and induce the voluntary sector to look at and build strong partnership with not only the Government but Private sector and Media as well and • Strengthen public confidence in the voluntary sector by opening it up to greater private and public scrutiny, and
